Brazilian Portuguese for Beginners — Lesson 6

Welcome to Lesson 6 of the Brazilian Portuguese Lessons. Beginning with this lesson, numbers 1-20 are included as part of the course, with a separate audio track to help you practice pronunciation and rhythm. As always, take your time working through each sentence and its word-by-word breakdown, and don’t worry about speed — consistency matters more than pace.

31. Mais depressa que eu?
Faster than me? / Faster than I am?
mais – more
depressa – fast / quickly
que – than
eu - I

32. É verdade.
It’s true.
é - is (from ser, “to be”)
verdade - truth

33. Essa rua fica longe daqui.
That street is far from here.
essa – that (feminine)
rua – street (feminine noun)
fica - is / is located (from ficar, “to be located”)
longe - far
daqui – from here (de + aqui)

34. Ele não vai comer conosco.
He is not going to eat with us.
ele - he
não - not
vai – is going / will (from ir, “to go”)
comer – to eat
conosco – with us (com + nós)

35. Elas são amigas.
They are friends. (feminine)
elas – they (feminine)
são – are (from ser, “to be”)
amigas – friends (feminine plural)

36. Nós podemos estudar juntos?
Can we study together?
nós – we
podemos – can / are able to (from poder, “to be able to”)
estudar – to study
juntos – together (masculine or mixed group)

9. nove – nine
10. dez - ten

12. doze - twelve
13. treze - thirteen
14. quatorze – fourteen (also catorze)
15. quinze – fifteen
16. dezesseis – sixteen
17. dezessete – seventeen
18. dezoito - eighteen
19. dezenove – nineteen
20. vinte - twenty
